Founded in 1944 as part of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Hampshire
and Vermont, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont split from the
New Hampshire in the early part of the 1980s and embarked on its

Vermont Freedom Plan: The flexibility of this plan allows members
to see either preferred healthcare providers or physicians and specialists
outside of the network. Members are offered four plan options to
choose from. Each plan option offers different deductible levels
for both preferred and non-preferred providers. After deductions
have been met, members are required to pay small co-payments for
standard healthcare. Different plans have different out-of-pocket
maximums.
Individual HSABlue: This plan allows members to take part in health
care plans where they can use pre-tax dollars to pay for medical
expenses. Although these plans need a high deductible, Blue Cross
and Blue Shield of Vermont pays for all of the covered medical expenses
when the deductible is met while members save tax money.
Vermont Blue 65 Plans A and C: In order to help them cover the gaps
in Medicare, these plans offer two options for individuals who are
65 years or older. Vermont Blue 65 A includes an extra 365 days
of hospitalization should your Medicare benefits be depleted. Vermont
Blue 65 Plan C, while carrying the same benefits of Plan A, also
includes additional coverage for skilled nursing facility care.
If you choose The Vermont Health Plan, you also select a local primary
care physician (PCP), who will become responsible for your medical
care. When you visit your PCP for medical attention, he/she will
guide you through the health care system so that you can receive
the best quality, most appropriate health care available. Members
of the plan need not pay any charge for a number of preventive care
services are available to you and your family. Among these services
are annual physical examinations, well-child care, mammograms, and
immunizations.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont also offers prescription drug
programs that meet all of your treatment needs (that include use
of state-of-the-art medications) at the best available prices. The
company’s new three-tier drug program offers
financial incentives when you choose generic or preferred brand-name
drugs. It also keep costs down for members through its Prior Approval
program for drugs. Most of the company’s drug
programs use the RESTAT pharmacy network, which currently includes
most Vermont pharmacies and a large network of pharmacies across
the nation (including almost all of the larger chains). Blue Cross

that allows members to enroll in an HSA, HSA Blue, HSA BlueCare,
