Kaiser Permanente of the
Mid-Atlantic States
Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States operates in the vicinity
of Washington, D.C. where health care policy and legislation are
introduced, debated, and decided. Among its members are members
of Congress and their staffs, as well as legislators and regulators
for the United States, the Commonwealth of Virginia, the State of
Maryland, and the District of Columbia. In 2003, Kaiser Permanente
opened new outpatient medical centers in Germantown and Annapolis,
MD., and in Chantilly, VA. At present, it operates a total of 28
medical centers, serving nearly 500,000 members in the District
of Columbia, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. The region is based
on a relationship between the Kaiser Permanente Health Plan and
the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group of physicians and specialists,
who share a vision of high quality care and services.
Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States has been adjudged a
"Star Performer" in eight of 15 measurement categories
in the consumer guide "Comparing the Quality of HMOs: A Consumer
Guide to Commercial HMOs," produced by Maryland's Health Care
Commission, 2001. Kaiser Permanente is the biggest and most respected
nonprofit Health Management Organization (HMO) in the United States.
It believes in keeping its members healthy, rather than treating
them when they fall ill. So, Kaiser’s policies cover your
preventive care, such as routine physicals and immunizations, at
no extra charge.
Its members can choose their own doctors from the company’s
extensive network.
Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States’ individual
and family plans are co-payment plans that are suitable for families
with small children or others who make regular doctor’s visits.
The amount of co-payment ($10-$30) will determine your monthly rate.
Its deductible plans are most effective if you do not often need
a doctor but wish to cover large health expenses. There are different
deductible levels to choose from.
Kaiser Permanente SelectSM is a network plan that offers: a wide
selection of personal physicians and specialists from our Mid-Atlantic
Permanente Medical Group and from its network of participating providers
in the community, including Johns Hopkins Health Care (see our medical
staff directory); the convenience of its own 29 medical centers—its
medical centers feature fully equipped physician and specialist
offices and most offer pharmacy, optical, laboratory, and X-ray
services; more choice of affiliated hospitals, with community and
specialty hospitals available throughout the Washington-Baltimore
area; and the flexibility and convenience of a network plan combined
with the value of its traditional group plan.
SignatureSM is its traditional prepaid group-practice plan that
offers: a wide range of benefits from checkups to major surgery;
a wide selection of personal physicians and specialists; the convenience
of its own 29 multi-specialty medical centers; and medical attention
that is available day or night.
Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States offers its Added ChoiceSM
option that provides the convenience of traditional HMO coverage
along with added flexibility to see any physician outside of the
plan. Its new product, Flexible Choice, gives you three clear advantages:
choice, flexibility, and access.
The company’s Custom Care Health Investor combines its new
HSA-qualified health plans (sometimes called high deductible health
plans or HDHPs), an HSA option, and extensive information tools
and resources to empower consumers. |
