Premera Blue Cross of Washington
Having started its operations in 1933, Premera Blue Cross Blue
Shield of Washington now has over 1.2 million members. It is a nonprofit,
independent regional health plan providing members, employers, providers
and brokers with high-quality coverage and service. Premera Blue
Cross has also been in business in Alaska since 1957. In Washington,
it has a network of 20,000 health care professionals and 20 hospitals.
The number of Premera Blue Cross employees in Washington and Alaska
is more than 3000. The company’s consolidated
revenue in 2004 amounted to three billion dollars.
Premera Blue Cross of Washington offers a number of attractive health
plans for its consumers. These plans include:
Heritage Protector Plus 20: Members of this plan get excellent health
care at affordable costs from participating network providers or
can choose health care providers from outside the network. At the
time of enrollment, plan members are offered a choice between two
deductible options. This plan covers among others yearly preventative
care exam, diagnostic services, and facility care. Members are required
to pay a 20% coinsurance to network participants and a 50% coinsurance
to non-participating health care providers on services covered.
Heritage Value Plus 30: Members of this plan are free to see both
network and non-network providers and choose from three different
deductible options when enrolling. The plan covers for members preventative
care, prescription drug coverage, diagnostic services, facility
services, and maternity care and other services. Members need to
pay a 30% coinsurance to network participants and 50% to non-participating
health care providers on services covered.
Heritage Preferred Plus 30: Members of this plan are entitled to
get wellness care, preventative care, prescription drug coverage,
vision care, diagnostic services, facility services, maternity care,
and many other important medical services. They are offered two
deductibles from which to choose. Members have to pay a 30% coinsurance
to network participants and 50% to non-participating health care
providers on services covered.
Heritage Protector Plus 20: Members of this plan are provided with
catastrophic coverage in the event of major illness or accident.
Preventive care is covered up to one visit per person, per calendar
year and one can choose from two calendar year deductible choices
of $500 or $1,000.
Heritage Preferred Plus 20: Members of this plan are eligible for
many of the same benefits as Protector Plus 20 members, plus prescription
drug coverage and vision care. As with Protection Plus 20, Heritage
Preferred Plus 20 members enjoy 20% coinsurance with network providers
and 50% coinsurance with non-network providers on services covered.
MedicarePlus: With this coverage, you can choose your doctors and
hospitals. You can also receive care anywhere in the United States,
with most plans including worldwide emergency coverage as well.
Premera Blue Cross’s Extras! offers savings on
health and wellness products and services from top American companies.
Of the four plans, Plan A provides coverage for basic benefits that
is available to Medicare-eligible people, including people with
Medicare who are under 65. Plan C adds coverage for skilled nursing,
deductibles and foreign travel emergency. Plan F covers all that
Plans A and C do plus 100% of the Part B excess charges. Plan I
covers all that A, C and F do, except the Part B Deductible and
also covers at-home recovery.
