Blue Cross of Idaho

When it comes to health insurance the state of Idaho swears by the Blue Cross of Idaho. As the oldest insurance organization in the state the BCI has always made policyholders the focal point of attention. The state has enjoyed the services of the Blue Cross of Idaho ever since it came into being in 1945. The fact that insurance should be affordable and should be within the reach of the common people has always governed the policies of the organization. As a result of this all currently active plans are cost- effective in nature. The reason why the majority of the state’s population chooses to bank upon the Blue Cross of Idaho is its financial strength and stability. The company continues to maintain a steady bond not only with members but also with other constituents comprising the government, employers, brokers and providers.

The Blue Cross of Idaho is an independent licensee working under the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. It is a not- for profit insurance company with over 600 employees within its folds. The organization has is headquarters in Meridian and has offices at Twin Falls, Idaho Falls, Lewiston, Pocatello and Coeur D’Alene as well. The BCI offers health insurance in a number of segments and has touched thousands of lives, more than 300, 000 to be precise. The plans offered are created with the highest level of precision by provider networks that have the same aim as that of Blue Cross of Idaho- to provide cost- effective health care facilities to the entire state of Idaho. These networks are wide enough to give people the choice to select from a host of participating doctors, hospitals and health centers.

BCI offers health insurance under four main categories comprising insurance for individuals, for employers, Medicare insurance plans and dental plans. Plans under the individual segment include the Essential Blue Basic, Essential Blue Plus, HSA Blue PPO plans and Latitude. The Essential Blue Basic plan is for those who do not want to spend a fortune to buy a health policy. One disadvantage of this plan is that it does not leave members with much choice as far as outpatient care goes. If you’re opting for the Blue Basic plan, essentially a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan, you can opt from deductibles of $1000, $2000, $3000 and $5000. The Essential Blue Plus plan covers all surgical services and has the same range of deductibles as that of the Basic Blue Plan. The HSO Blue PPO plan is higher on deductibles where family deductibles are in the range of $4000 and $10, 000. The Latitude plan too, like the Essential plans demand lower deductibles and covers hospital service, other emergency services and even prescription drugs.

Plans for employers are divided between traditional plans, PPO plans and managed care plans. Under the Medicare program there are four main plans namely, the True Blue plan, Flexi Blue plan, the Secure Blue Plan and the Part D Prescription Drug Coverage. While the first one is a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plan the third one is a PPO plan. Dental insurance is available in two categories- Individual dental insurance and group dental insurance.
