Mountain State BlueCross BlueShield

The only insurance company working along the guidelines placed by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) is the Mountain Blue Cross Blue Shield. With a history that covers more than seven decades, the organization today stands as the largest health insurance company in the area. And over the years its objective has remained what its founders had intended to be- to reach out to the entire population with quality health care that comes at an affordable price. The Mountain Blue Cross Blue Shield has an enormous number of customers, both at the Government and private levels, and its constant aim is to drive policies towards the satisfaction of its customer base.

After it had its initiation in 1932, the Mountain State Blue Cross Blue Shield has come a long way. Today it offers health insurance products in a number of categories including traditional indemnity and managed care. The organization reaches infinitely across 55 counties in West Virginia and provides coverage to around 400, 000 people. In order to ensure quality of products and services, the Mountain State Blue Cross Blue Shield maintains a stable and grounded relationship with its extensive network of providers including hospitals, physicians and medical centers. 1999 saw the organization entering into an agreement with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield with regards to commitment towards customers, employees, financial stability and towards the not- for- profit nature of operations.

The Mountain State Blue Cross Blue Shield creates products and services for individuals, employee groups and for employees working with the Federal Government. In the individual category, the company also offers plans to Medicare beneficiaries. Individuals can choose from a Limited Benefit Plan, a One on One plan and a range of high deductible plans. The Limited Benefit Plan is a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan. It allows members to access physicians and hospitals through a wide network and offers benefits like prescription drug coverage and maternity care (the latter, though, is optional). Please note that the Limited Benefit Plan does not offer comprehensive coverage but does demand a low premium from members. The One on One plan too is a PPO that lets individuals choose from five deductible options according to their financial means. Range of benefits under this plan includes preventive care services, inpatient and outpatient care services, home health care and a number of other wellness benefits.

Plans for employee groups are divided according to employee strength. The Mountain Blue Cross Blue Shield offers plans to employee groups of 2 to 50, 51 to 249 and groups with more than 250 employees.

Medicare supplemental programs also happen to be within the plan offering agenda of Mountain State Blue Cross Blue Shield. Individuals who are above the age of 65 and have enrolled for Medicare Part A and B are eligible to apply for these plans. In the Medicare category, the Blue Rx from Highmark is also available.
