Combining the Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska and Premera Blue Cross of Washington brands stands Premera, an organization serving people with health insurance products and services for several decades now. So how did Premera come about? The year was 1945 and the organization took baby steps into the health insurance industry with the then Washington Hospital Service, that got the right to offer prepaid health products and services in 1948. More than two decades after that, the organization had its name changed to Blue Cross of Washington and Alaska. The year 1994 was a turning point for the company when it became an affiliate of the Medical Service Corporation (MSC). Finally, 1998 was witness to the merger of MSC with Blue Cross of Washington and Alaska. Since then the unit has been known to the world as Premera.

Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska has plans for individuals, families and employer groups. Individuals and families can insure themselves through plans like Alaska Best Care 20, Alaska Value Care 25, Alaska Global Start 50, Alaska HSA 20, Alaska HSA Rx and Alaska HSA Rx 20. Alaska Best Care 20 has deductible options for individuals starting at $500 and going upto $5000. For families, the lower end of the spectrum is $1000 and the higher end $10,000. Benefits include preventive care, alternative care, diagnostic services and other advantages.

Alaska Value Care 25 lets individuals choose from two deductibles of $1500 and $2500. Benefits included in this plan are emergency care, maternity care, preventive care and special services like home health care. The Alaska Global Start 50 has lower deductible choices set at $500 and $1000. Office visits, preventive care, emergency care, inpatient and outpatient services and maternity care are some benefits included in this plan. Alaska HSA 20 offers $1700 and $2500 as deductible choices for individuals and for families they are $3400 and $5000. Alternative care, preventive care, maternity care and diagnostic services are included. Similar benefits can also be got through Alaska HSA Rx and HSA Rx 20 plans.

Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska can help you out even if you’re 65 or above. Its range of supplement plans caters to a wide number of requirements. There are five plans on offer namely Plans A, C, F, I and J.
