Ada Hospital Assures the Disabled Workers

Valley View Regional Hospital is first Oklahoma hospital to take part in the nationwide program emphasizing on the work force improvement for the workers with critical disabilities.

SEARCH project is partnered with the businesses to offer disable people with opportunities for learning skills by means of non-traditional occupations. At Valley View Regional Hospital, four Oklahoma residents took part in a nine month long session of on-job schooling in different internships and conditions at hospital.

The internships comprise a lab training as well as training in wound care, food service, and customer care service and information technology.

These four are currently operational in Ada.

According to Brenda Brasher, a professional rehab counselor for State Rehabilitation Service Department, partner companies are not restricted to the hospitals. However, the program is actually originated in hospital and hospitals are the most familiar partners. Brenda said that the program is also in use in universities and banks.

According to Brenda, the perfect partner has to be a business which is capable enough to job rotations. Moreover, the business should have a rational expectation of appointing an intern; provided he or she is a good worker.

This year, Oklahoma initiated with two different programs; high school transition program at the Tulsa's St. John Medical Center that had Jenks school district as program partner and young adult program at the Valley View.
