Veterans Health Insurance provides preventive health care to all the enrolled veterans through the Medical Benefits Package. Low income veterans as well as those having service connected disabilities are automatically enrolled in the program. The qualifications required to get Veterans Health Insurance is determined by the Veteran's Health Care Eligibility Reform Act as passed by the Congress in 1996.

Qualifications Required To Get Veterans Health Insurance

All active personnel as well as those discharged (except on dishonourable grounds) of Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard, Marines, Merchant Marines of WWII and Reservist National Guard members who were called under the Federal Executive Order to active duty are qualified to get Veterans Health Insurance.

Health Services Covered Under Veteran Health Insurance

Enrolled Veterans have automatic access to the standard benefits as provided in the Medical Benefits Package. The benefits include different preventive care and in-patient and out-patient services. Veterans can get additional services under special situations that depend on their eligibility as well as needs. The services included in the health insurance and coming under the coverage of the Medical Benefits Package include the following:

Preventive Care Services including Medical, Surgical (reconstructive/plastic surgery caused due to disease or any trauma), Emergency outpatient treatment in VA facilities, Chiropractic care, Mental Health, Substance abuse and Bereavement counselling.

The services provided in inpatient (hospital) diagnostic as well as treatment are Emergency in-patient care in VA facilities, Surgical (that includes reconstructive / plastic surgery resulting from disease or any trauma), Substance abuse and Mental Health.

The benefit package in case of Medications and Supplies include Prescription medications, Medical and Surgical supplies and Over-the-counter medications.
