Buying a trip cancellation does not always guarantee you reimbursements. If your trip was not cancelled due to specific reasons, you may not receive reimbursements. The company may also require that you furnish definite proof of the reasons. The following are the particular conditions under which you may receive reimbursements from these policies;
- The unexpected death, illness or injury of the insured or a family member is a valid reason for canceling your trip. The company may require that you provide proof that this incident is relevant at the time of your scheduled departure. It is not necessary that the injured or departed family member be a part of the trip you planned. It is understood that this incident may prevent you from making the trip. Therefore, this would be a valid reason for receiving reimbursements from the company.
- If you cancel your trip due to a federal government warning against you visiting the area due to a terrorist attack, it is a valid reason for trip cancellation. As a result, you will receive reimbursements for your costs. Note that this warning should not have been there when you had planned the trip and made your deposits.
There may also be other reasons for you cancellation of the trip which are not so common. These may include:
- Hijacking
- Harm to your primary residence
- Jury duty
- Auto related accidents on the way to the destination
- Unexpected unemployment
Remember, trip cancellation insurance is not meant to cover your costs in case of a foreseeable cause. It is also not meant to cover costs in case you change your mind. The company will not provide you reimbursements for these costs.
